On Narragansett Bay, the several parks make for popular spots for scuba diving. Offering spectacular views of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay, Fort Wetherill is popular for watching Tall Ship events and sailing races.

418 acre former dairy farm located in Tiverton. The property consists of diverse habitats including many farm fields and hedgerows, extensive swamp forest and dense thickets. A ten acre stocked trout pond is present on the east side of 8 Rod Way. Access is off of Route 77 and 8 Rod Way.

Fisherville Brook Wildlife Refuge

Closed to public. The 833 acre property contains fields, diverse forest habitats, pond, streams (including a lovely waterfall), and a historic cemetery. Wonderful scenery and pleasant hiking opportunities make Fisherville Brook well worth the visit.

Fort Nature Refuge

Fort Wetherill State Park

Fort Wetherill State Park, situated upon 100 foot high granite cliffs across the water from Fort Adams State Park, is a former coastal defense battery and training camp. Known for its spectacular view of Newport Harbor and the East Passage of Narragansett Bay, Fort Wetherill has been a popular sight for viewing the numerous Tall Ship Events and Americaís Cup Races. The area is also a major attraction for scuba diving, with Diving Clubs from New York State, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island using the facilities at the boat ramp year round. Additionally, the park offers family and group picnicking, boating, fishing, hiking and exploring on the parkís 61.5 acres of property.

George B. Parker Woodland

A 751 acre property consisting of majestic old forest, brooks, fields, and mysterious rock cairns. The caretaker's house was built in the 1700's and is on the National Register of Historic Places. George Washington Management Area

Primitive tent and trailer campsites and 2 shelters in a wooded area overlooking Bowdish Reservoir. Campers limited to two weeks. Swimming,Boating, Fishing and hiking trails. George Washington Management Area covers a total land area of 3489 acres. this area is dominated by forest cover, deciduous forest (2569 acres), and evergreen forest (419 acres) totalling 2988 acres. Wetlands (439 acres), agricultural (3.6 acres), and other lands (94.2 acres) make up the remainder of the property.

Goddard State Park

Goddard Park attracts thousands of visitors each year as Rhode Islandís most popular Metropolitan Park. The park offers a beautiful natural environment with spacious lawns, fields, and forested areas with a variety of trees from all over the world, including 62 deciduous and 19 evergreen species. Visitors can make use of a newly renovated saltwater beach and bathhouse, a nine hole golf course, an equestrian show area, 18 miles of bridle trails, 355 picnic tables, 11 game fields, and a new performing arts center for weddings, concerts, picnics and special events.

Gold Dust Farm

Gold Dust Farm is a cutting horse training facility located in north western Rhode Island. We provide cutting lessons and training of cutting horses. We also provide general western riding lessons.

Great Swamp Management Area
South County
Great Swamp covers a total land area of 3349 acres. Acreage is divided among the following cover types: wetlands (2262 acres), forest cover (897 acres), agricultural land (88 acres), and other lands (102 acres; brush, utilities, etc.). The area contains extensive forested freshwater wetlands, dominated by red maple swamps with some cedar swamp.

Haines Memorial State Park

Haines Memorial State Park was established in 1911 when Ida M. Haines donated 83 acres of land to the Metropolitan Park Commission. The land was donated for use as a park in memory of her brother. New boat ramp and docking facilities in 2001. Additional parking in 2002.

NPS Ranger assistance is available, with advance reservations.

John L. Curran Management Area

The J. L. Curran Management Area covers 332 acres and is largely a forested tract comprised primarily of deciduous hardwood trees, oaks, maple and beech. Two ponds, agricultural land for public gardening.
