On Narragansett Bay, the several parks make for popular spots for scuba diving. Offering spectacular views of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay, Fort Wetherill is popular for watching Tall Ship events and sailing races.

Audubon Society of RI Environmental Education Center
East Bay
The Audubon Environmental Education Center is a unique natural history museum and aquarium that puts fun and excitement into experiencing nature. Interactive environmental exhibits allow you to look inside a 33-foot life-size model of a Right Whale, observe marine life in a tide-pool tank, explore a cornfield at night, and view other fascinating nature exhibits. Walking trails lead from the Center across the 28-acre McIntosh Wildlife Refuge along a 1/4 mile boardwalk, which crosses the East Bay Bike path to Narragansett Bay.

Beavertail State Park

Beavertail State Park, located in Jamestown, Rhode Island, is known for offering some of the most beautiful vistas along the New England coastline. The Park attracts people from all over the country, to enjoy it's pristine environment. Beavertailís most popular activity is sightseeing, and can be done from the comfort of a vehicle, in one of the four overlooks or on foot, from the rocky coastline. Beavertail also provides some of the best saltwater fishing in the area, along with offering hiking trails, and a naturalist program that attracts hundreds of people each year.

Big River covers a total area of 8319 acres. The area is composed of mainly forest land (evergreens 4374 acres, deciduous 1781 acres), wetlands (1288 acres), agricultural lands (233 acres), and other areas (gravel, residential, etc. 407 acres). Major rivers or streams in the area are Big River, Nooseneck River, Congdon River and Carr River.

Black Hut covers a total land area of 1548 acres. The area is composed of primarily forest land (deciduous 1158 acres, evergreen 163 acres), wetlands (171 acres), and agricultural land (18.5 acres).

Block Island National Wildlife Refuge

Adjacent to a former U.S. Coast Guard light station, Block Island Refuge consists of 46 acres of sandy beaches and rolling dunes. Although no developed trail system exists, the site is accessible by foot over sandy terrain. Much of the property adjacent to the refuge, including 105-acre Sachem Pond, is managed by the Town of New Shoreham as a conservation area.

Brenton Point State Park

Occupying the former grounds of one of Newport's grandest estates, Brenton Point State Park affords its visitors one of the most commanding and spectacular views on the East Coast. The park is located at the point of land where Narragansett Bay meets the Atlantic, midway along renowned Ocean Drive. Visitors can enjoy picnicking, hiking, fishing, or just relaxing with the cool breezes and majestic views of the Atlantic.

Buck Hill Management Area

Buck Hill covers a total land area of 2049 acres. The area is composed of primarily forest land (deciduous 1815 acres, evergreen 3.2 acres), wetlands (201 acres), and agricultural lands (14.6 acres). The DFW maintains a wildlife marsh (approximately 30.7 acres) which serves to attract waterfowl, furbearers such as muskrat, and other wetland dependent birds.

Burlingame Management Area

Burlingame covers a total area of 1390 acres. The area is composed primarily of forest cover (deciduous 906 acres, evergreen 72 acres), with wetlands (377 acres), and agricultural land (14 acres) and other areas (20 acres) covering the balance.

Burlingame State Park
South County
The park has 3,100 acres of rocky woodland surrounding Watchaug Pond in Charlestown. The entrance to the park headquarters and camping area is off U.S. Route #1 just south of the entrance to the Naval Auxiliary Landing Field. Between these two points is located the entrance to the main park, picnic area and the Kimball Sanctuary via Prosser Trail, now being resurfaced and straightened. Rather extensive picnic facilities, 73 fireplaces, toilets, drinking water, swimming beach and bathhouse make this one of the most popular state recreation areas. First come, first served basis. Reservations available for camping cabins only.

Carolina Management Area
South County
Carolina covers a total land area of 2359 acres. The area is composed of primarily forest cover (evergreen 960 acres, deciduous 456 acres), wetlands (280 acres) and agricultural lands (134 acres) making up the balance. The DFW maintains approximately 42 management fields which are intensively managed by the DFW for the purpose of increasing food and cover for game and nongame wildlife.

Casey Farm
South County
The 300-acre working farm, overlooking Narragansett Bay, is a rare example of one of the original plantation farms of the Colonial era. The farmhouse, (c. 1750), surrounded by fields, barns, high stone walls and a family cemetery, was a site of Revolutionary activity. In cultivation since the time of the Narragansett Indians, today the farm is managed as a community supported farm and is RI Certified Organic. House museum, hiking trails, organic seedlings and produce.

Chepachet Farms

In addition to the collection of common farm animals, including chickens, goats, miniature horse, potbelly pigs, peacocks, ducks and our famous Belgiun' Percheron Draft Horses, Chepachet Farms has some very uncommon animals., Our newest addition to our family is "cappuccino" the Llama and "Clyde" the miniature donkey. Others include Chinese Silkies, and Barboudas sheep.*included with all rides from the farm and birthday packages. Horse-drawn hay and sleigh rides, wedding carriage, trolley service and petting zoo.
