Rhode Island beaches come in many sizes and shapes. White sand ocean beaches cover much of the southern Rhode Island coast and dot the rest of the 400 miles of Rhode Island coastline with more than 100 public and private beaches to enjoy. By day, beaches are teeming with people building sandcastles, body surfing, searching for seashells and just soaking in the sun. In the evening, the low rumble of the surf crashing upon the shore offers a soothing backdrop for a romantic stroll.

Lincoln Woods State Park

This 627 acre Park is located just outside of the city of Providence on R.I. Rput 146 North. It includes all of Olney Pond and offers facilities used by thousand of visitors each year for picnicking, boating, baseball, freshwater, swimming, fishing, horseback riding, hiking and is also very popular for jogging and walking. During the winter months it is also popular for ice fishing, ice skating and snowmobiling.

Rental cabanas, picnic areas, changing rooms, boardwalk for beach access. Recreational programming. Surfing lessons and leagues, aerobics classes, junior lifeguard program, musical concerts, sand castle contests, volleyball leagues, triathlon, kite festival and pumpkin festival.

Ninigret Park

This 227 acre park features a state of the art playground, ball fields, ten-speed bike course, tennis and basketball courts, picnic areas, and a freshwater swimming pond with public beach, lifeguards on duty (seasonal). Frosty Drew Nature Center and Observatory are privately owned and operated but information can be obtained by calling 401-364-9508 or writing to PO Box 160, Charlestown, RI 02813. Seasonal special events are held, call for updated schedule.

North Light

The fourth lighthouse to attempt the shifting sands on Block Island's Sandy Point. The building was opened in 1993 as an interpretive center. National Wildlife Sanctuary trails lead to the lighthouse. No tower access.

Excellent fishing at the breachway. Central beach has very prestigious homes.

Salty Brine State Beach
South County
Sandy, clean, pretty beach. Gentle surf with breakwater shelter. No undertow, gradual drop, near fishing port. Great for kids.
